Jesus Study
The Cornerstone of Belief

Purpose

Reveal the basic truths about Christ.
Encourage someone to believe in Jesus Christ and obey His commands.

Key Verse

John 20:30-31

John 20:30-31

Why were the Gospels (such as the book of John) written?
What results from believing that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah)?

Many people are religious. Many call themselves Christians.
Our goal is to gain the kind of belief that John talks about.

  • John 1:1
  • John 1:14

Jesus was with God from the beginning and He is God who became flesh. Jesus and God are the same in nature.
[Read John 1:1-18 to see why Jesus came.]

John 14:6

Jesus is the way. The only way to God is through Jesus.

John 8:31-32

What does Jesus expect from His disciples?
We need to hold to his teachings in order to truly be His disciples. The Greek for "hold" literally means to "remain, abide, or commit". Note that obedience is more than just head knowledge or an intellectual kind of belief.

1 John 2:3-6

This passage shows some expectations for us.
When can we say that we know Christ?
What do you think God expects from you?

Challenge

Do you see the central role of Jesus in what we should believe? We encourage you to get excited to know and appreciate Jesus more. In the next studies, we will talk about important principles based on the expectations of Jesus. The Bible will make these clear. Will you take this challenge?
